The 119th Congress has officially begun, and AAO’s advocacy efforts are already underway. With a new session comes a shift in leadership, fresh legislative priorities, and a complete reset of all previously introduced legislation. As lawmakers establish their agendas, now is the time for AAO members to engage with their elected officials and ensure that the issues impacting orthodontists and their patients are prioritized in Washington, D.C.

Take Action Now
“One simple yet very important step for grassroots civic engagement is AAO members knowing who represents them at the local, state and federal levels,” says AAO Vice President of Advocacy Nathan Mick. “A very important next step is those elected officials knowing their constituent orthodontists. When policy makers know you, they can come to rely on your counsel for issues related not only to oral health, but health care in general, small business topics, workforce challenges, and more. AAO members growing personal relationships with elected officials is key to our long-term advocacy strategy and success at AAO.”

Your engagement is critical. In less than a minute, you can help the AAO build momentum in Congress by sending a message to your federal lawmakers. Our system will automatically connect you with the right representatives—simply enter your address, review the message, and hit send. It’s that easy.

The AAO Advocacy Team, along with Meagan Foster and Alex Campau from Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies, has been closely monitoring developments at the federal level and working to build relationships with key decision-makers. In last week’s advocacy update, they outlined significant changes in Congress, including new leadership transitions, the impact of the administration’s early policy moves, and how these shifts could influence legislative discussions on healthcare, tax reform, and student loan policies.

With the expiration of all legislation from the previous session, AAO will work to reintroduce and advance its key priorities. The team is already engaging with lawmakers on federal student loan reform, expanding healthcare savings options for families, and ensuring stronger patient protections against direct-to-consumer orthodontic treatment models. However, lawmakers need to hear directly from you to reinforce the importance of these issues.

Congress is moving quickly to set its priorities for the session. By taking action today, you help ensure that orthodontic issues remain at the forefront of federal policy discussions and top of mind for your lawmakers’.
