To Those Impacted by Hurricane Ida:

First and foremost, I hope you understand that AAO members around the world stand with you in support as you confront the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. It is no secret that natural disasters like this one can cause serious financial hardship, physical and emotional damage, and long-lasting effects. Primary among these concerns, I hope that you and your family are safe and secure wherever you may find yourselves.

As Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi begin cleanup efforts in the wake of Ida, I wanted to reach out today to make sure you are aware of the disaster relief options and support available to you.

As you may know, AAO members who are victims of natural disasters can apply to the Disaster Relief Fund, which is administered by the AAO’s charitable foundation, the AAOF. Qualified applicants can receive financial support of up to $5,000 to assist in restoring, repairing, or reconstructing a practice facility. These funds can also be used to offset damage to or loss of dental equipment and orthodontic supplies at your practice. (Learn more or apply here.)

Mental health and emotional wellbeing are also of paramount importance during events like this. The AAO has collected relevant resources for our members that encompass several important mental health issues including managing stress, confronting and overcoming obstacles, and motivating your team through hardship. These webinars are available on-demand and are offered at no cost to AAO members. (View and access these resources here.)

On behalf of the AAO, we are here to help. Should you have any questions about the AAOF Disaster Relief Fund, please contact Executive Director Jackie Bode at [email protected]. General membership inquiries can be directed to [email protected] or (314) 993-1700. And thank you, as always, for your membership in the American Association of Orthodontists.
