Since its formation in the spring of 2021, the AAO Special Committee on Inclusion & Engagement has worked to help the AAO create an environment that is inclusive and rich in diversity. The committee is now facilitating follow-up dialogue based on input from last year’s member survey.
In addition, the committee has initiated recruitment of a new member, and invites applications from AAO members interested in bringing insight, ideas and leadership to its efforts.
The Special Committee on Inclusion and Engagement has the following charges:
1. Work to support and inspire diverse groups within the AAO by helping to develop tools and pathways to leadership.
2. Identify obstacles for involvement in the AAO and make recommendations for change.
3. Identify the unique needs and issues that face diverse orthodontists and implement plans to address these needs.
Desired qualifications for committee members:
● Experience in leadership, whether with the AAO or outside the AAO, is preferred but not required.
● Each member must be willing to serve a two-year term, with an option for renewal for up to three terms.
● The ability to attend committee meetings via conference calls and communicate by electronic means.

● Motion with selected new committee member name submitted by the Task Force for November Board of Trustees meeting: October 28, 2022
● Presentation of selected candidate to the AAO Board: November 18, 2022
● Welcome letter sent to the new member: Week of December 1, 2022
