The Brittle Bone Disease Consortium, supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has been conducting research on the craniofacial characteristics of Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) for the past decade. Working on this research with the NIH, AAO member Dr. Jean-Marc Retrouvey is engaged in a study initiated in 2020, on the potential of treatment utilizing Invisalign to address the severe malocclusions commonly seen in OI patients.

By addressing severe malocclusions, the study aims to improve the oral health and quality of life of individuals with OI. The primary goal of the research is to assess improvements in mastication and aesthetics, while monitoring for root resorption or other adverse effects.

The study is currently recruiting participants and invites AAO members to refer potential candidates to one of the three study centers: the NIH in Washington, D.C.; UCLA in Los Angeles; and McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
