The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Board of Trustees has selected Dr. Jae Hyun Park to become the next editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (AJO-DO) and of the AJO-DO Clinical Companion. On June 1, Dr. Park will succeed Dr. Rolf Behrents, who has held the position since 2013 and will retire at the end of Fiscal Year 2024-25.
Since 2008, Dr. Park has been a professor and chair of the postgraduate orthodontic program at the A.T. University Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health in Mesa, Arizona. He also has an adjunct professor appointment at the Harvard University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Park received his dental (DMD) degree from Kyung Hee University in Seoul, South Korea, where he also completed a PhD program. He received a master’s degree in public health from Seoul National University. He also graduated from the New York University orthodontic residency program and received an MS in biomaterials from New York University College of Dentistry.
Dr. Park was deputy editor of both AAO journals from 2020–23 (the online AJO-DO Clinical Companion launched in 2021) and has been the publications’ deputy editor-in-chief since 2023. Dr. Park is the editor-in-chief emeritus of the Journal of the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists (PCSO Bulletin), and he has served on the editorial boards of numerous international, peer-reviewed orthodontic and dental journals, including The Angle Orthodontist and Seminars in Orthodontics. He has been an associate editor of Orthodontics & Craniofacial Research, Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists, the Korean Journal of Orthodontics, and others.
Dr. Park has delivered more than 160 invited lectures nationally and internationally, published more than 410 scientific and clinical articles in peer-reviewed orthodontic and dental journals, and has edited three books and written more than 30 book chapters. He is the editor of the book, Temporary Anchorage Devices in Clinical Orthodontics (Wiley, 2020), now in preparation for a 2nd edition, Temporary Anchorage Devices and Clear Aligners in Clinical Orthodontics, which will be published at the end of 2025.
Leadership in Organized Orthodontics
Dr. Park is the 2024-25 president of the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) and the chair of the 2025 ABO Educators Symposium. A past chair of the ABO Written Examination Committee and the ABO Policy Committee, he also serves as an ABO examiner.
Dr. Park was a founding member of the AAO Committee on Conferences and Meetings (CCon), contributing to the planning of the AAO Winter Conference and the Annual Session Doctors Scientific Program. He currently serves on the AAO AI in Orthodontics Task Force and on the AAO Foundation Rapid Assessment of Evidence panel. He is a past president of the Arizona State Orthodontic Association.
