Dr. Nellie Kim-Weroha will become the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists (MSO) representative on the AAO Board of Trustees, starting at the conclusion of the 2026 AAO House of Delegates meeting on May 3. MSO elected Dr. Kim-Weroha as its incoming representative to the AAO Board, a role in which she will succeed current AAO President Elect Dr. Michael Durbin. 
 
Long engaged in organized orthodontics, Dr. Kim-Weroha is a past president of MSO and of the Minnesota Association of Orthodontists, and a past chair of the MSO delegation to the AAO House of Delegates. 
 
As a member of the AAO’s first Task Force on Women Orthodontists, Dr. Kim-Weroha helped start the Women Orthodontists Networking Session (WONS) at the 2019 AAO Annual Session in Los Angeles. A member of the 2019 Annual Session Planning Committee, she joined the AAO Committee on Conferences & Meetings (CCon) as it formed in 2020 to be responsible for each year’s Annual Session and Winter Conference.  
 
Dr. Kim-Weroha was Vice Chair of CCon for 2023-24 and Chair for 2024-25. Her leadership has helped the AAO successfully innovate the meeting experience to reflect rapidly advancing scientific and clinical knowledge and an increasingly diverse membership. In addition, she served on the AAO Special Committee on Women Orthodontists and chaired the AAO Special Committee on Constituent Collaboration in 2023-24. 
 
Dr. Kim-Weroha is currently a partner in her private practice, GLK Orthodontics, in Rochester, Minnesota. She joined the practice as an associate in 2007 after completing the University of Missouri – Kansas City orthodontic residency program. She also completed the Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, an advanced education in general dentistry residency program, and a Master of Science degree in bone biology at UMKC.  
 
As an orthodontic resident, Dr. Kim-Weroha participated in research focused on bone regulation and osteoporosis. Her master’s thesis, “Regulation of Sclerostin Expression in Osteocytes by PGE2 and Mechanical Loading,” contributed to the field of bone research and has had many citations. The study was presented at an American Society for Bone and Mineral Research meeting and received the UMKC Distinguished Master’s Thesis Award.  
 
A Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, Dr. Kim-Weroha has served as an ABO examiner since 2020. She was an ABO ambassador from 2024-25. 
 
Dr. Kim-Weroha resides in Rochester with her husband, Dr. John Weroha, who is a Mayo Clinic oncologist, and their twin sons who are juniors in high school. 

About the AAO Board of Trustees
As the association’s managing body, the Board of Trustees is responsible for implementing policies established by the House of Delegates, while providing strategic direction and overseeing operations. In fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities, the Board ensures that AAO operates in the best interests of its members and in accordance with its governing documents.

The Board of Trustees is comprised of 14 total members, including the AAO President, one Trustee from each constituent society and up to three Trustees At-Large. The Speaker of the House and Editor-in-Chief serve as ex officio members.
