OSHA and orthodontic workplace safety expert Jackie Dorst provided the AAO with an updated Boil Water Advisory Plan for Dental Practices, explaining steps to take during and after a boil water notice. Orthodontists and teams need to know what to do if their water is contaminated after a storm or other disaster, or in other situations where water treatment concerns result in boil water notices.

The flier linked below by the Dental Safety Study Group, which Ms. Dorst shared with permission, addresses how to provide safe water for treatment purposes, along with U.S. Centers for Disease Control guidelines. The content also addresses post-boil order reminders for shocking dental unit water lines, draining hot water heaters, flushing water faucets, draining reverse osmosis system tanks and filter replacement.
