The exhibit hall at the 2025 AAO Annual Session in Philadelphia was the perfect opportunity to bring AAO’s strategic goal of driving transformation and innovation to life as Drs. Lisa Alvetro and Christian Groth of the AAO Committee on Technology (CTech) conducted in-booth interviews with several innovative companies. Explore new products, their features and process innovations in this series of CTech’s “Tech Walk” interviews:
▪ LuxCreo: Direct aligner printing
▪ uLab Systems: Platform usage for 3D printing of indirect bonding trays in-house
▪ Grin: AI-powered automation for patient engagement and treatment tracking
▪ KLOwen: Custom self-ligating metal brackets and indirect bonding
▪ LightForce: Use of customers’ reprint data to personalize 3D-printed indirect
bonding (IDB) trays
▪ EPAX: High-resolution, low-cost, open-source 3D printers

Additional interviews provided insights into OrthoBerry (AI-driven new patient intake platform designed for orthodontic practices), and Bright Referral (technology for receiving, tracking and follow up with referred patients). OrthoBerry and Bright Referral received the AAO Ortho Innovator Award in 2025 and 2024, respectively.
Interactive Innovation Content Addressed AI
The AI Spotlight, located in the Innovation Pavilion, highlighted how artificial intelligence is being used in aspects of orthodontic treatment. Stations open for visits and demonstration exercises included Diagnosis & Treatment Planning, Appliance Design and Practice Uses, and Patient Monitoring.
At each demo station, key points about the specific use were communicated and each featured a participating company, including Titan Dental Design, LuxCreo and DentoAI. Product descriptions, uses of AI, web links and Exhibit Hall booth numbers were provided. Spotlight stations communicated how the use of AI in clinical orthodontics must support, not replace the orthodontist as the decision maker.
Members of the AAO AI Task Force shared their knowledge during a panel discussion and took questions from attendees. Moderated by 2024-25 AAO CTech Chair Dr. Lisa Alvetro, panel speakers included Dr. Jonas Bianchi, Dr. Lucia Cevidanes and Dr. Sandra Tai.
