According to the CDC, social distancing, also called “physical distancing,” means keeping space between yourself and other people outside of your home. To practice social or physical distancing:

  • Stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arms’ length) from other people
  • Do not gather in groups
  • Stay out of crowded places and avoid mass gatherings

Social Distancing versus Physical Distancing

Physical distancing is just another way to say social distancing. Some organizations, such as the World Health Organization, are advocating for use of the term “physical” over “social,” due to the importance of continued socialization for one’s overall well-being. Despite physically distancing from each other, people are finding unique ways to continue to socialize during this time.
