The AAO elected officers for 2025-26 during last week’s 125th Annual Session in Philadelphia with 2024-25 AAO President Dr. John Callahan concluding his term in office.
Dr. Steven M. Siegel, the AAO’s 2025-26 president, is a veteran of more than 35 years in orthodontic practice in Glen Burnie, Maryland and nearby communities. Dr. Siegel also has served as a faculty member in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Maryland for more than 35 years. In addition, he has worked with the Johns Hopkins Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Team for more than 30 years and directed an expanded function orthodontic assistants’ course at Howard Community College.
As an AAO trustee representing the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists since 2016, Dr. Siegel provided leadership in numerous initiatives including the Inclusion & Engagement Task Force, for which he became the Board liaison in 2021 when the task force was established.
Dr. Siegel completed the orthodontic residency program at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Before specializing in orthodontics, he graduated from the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, served as a commissioned officer in the United States Public Health Service and practiced general dentistry with his wife and fellow dentist, Dr. Mindy Siegel.

Working closely with Dr. Siegel in AAO leadership during the coming year will be President-Elect Dr. Michael G. Durbin of Des Plaines, Illinois (Midwestern Society of Orthodontists) and Secretary-Treasurer Dr. Richard A. Williams of Nesbit, Mississippi (Southern Association of Orthodontists).

Also new to the Board is incoming Trustee-At-Large Dr. India Collier of Fayetteville, Georgiawith Dr. Enrique Cruz of Austin, Texas and Dr. Kaitrin Kramer of Columbus, Ohio continuing as Trustees-At-Large.
Dr. Rolf Behrents, editor-in-chief of the AJO-DO will retire from his position effective May 31, 2025, to be succeeded on June 1 by Dr. Jae Hyun Park, who will then become an AAO trustee as editor-in-chief.
Dr. Luis Toro of Fajardo, Puerto Rico will continue as the speaker of the House of Delegates for 2026. AAO CEO Trey Lawrence also serves on the Board of Trustees.
