AAO Now Administering the Program In-House

In the 11 years since its establishment, the AAO Donated Orthodontic Services Program has provided treatment for 943 children from families with financial need, with a total treatment value of $5.1 million. Last year, 142 cases were completed by AAO volunteers nationwide.

AAO volunteers provide much-wanted treatment for patients in need and are able to focus on treatment only, with all front-end assessments of eligibility provided by the DOS program. There is no minimum number of accepted cases required of volunteers.

The DOS program also recently reached another major milestone: The AAO brought management of the program in-house. A dedicated AAO team member is now responsible for financial vetting of applicants and assessment of their readiness to comply with treatment requirements. Dental health assessments are provided by general dentists who have examined the applicants.

AAO Seeks New DOS Volunteers

Would you like to bring smiles, laughter, and confidence to young people in need of orthodontic treatment? We have children and their families who are committed to starting treatment and who are waiting for available AAO members. Without DOS volunteers, many of the children on the program waiting list will not be able to receive orthodontic treatment.

You can make a difference in the lives of these children. The AAO DOS information page for members provides access to the volunteer enrollment form (click on “I’M INTERESTED.”)

For questions about the DOS program, contact Chelsey Banaskavich, program coordinator for AAO Donated Orthodontic Services (DOS), at [email protected] or 800.424.2841 x582.
