Have you heard that the AAO no longer endorses AAOIC?

In 1995, AAO created AAOIC to provide malpractice insurance exclusively to AAO members, contributing $1.1 million to fund its creation. From its beginning, AAOIC has always been a separate company due to legal requirements that pertain to insurance carriers. In the fall of 2025, AAOIC made the decision to sell to non-AAO members and requested AAO to amend our contract to permit them to do so. The AAO’s top core value is “Our Members Come First” so their request, coupled with other AAOIC business practices such as an extraordinary price increase in New York, made it clear to us that parting ways with AAOIC was in the best interest of AAO members. Since December 2025, AAOIC is no longer endorsed by AAO. See the announcement from immediate past-AAO President, Dr. Steven Siegel for details.

To honor AAO’s dues‑paying members—past, present, and future—the AAO is moving in a new direction. As an AAO member, you can now get all the coverage you need as an orthodontist, including malpractice, helping protect yourself, your practice and your family in one place.

The AAO-Endorsed Insurance Program, administered by Lockton Affinity, is taking a two-phase approach to providing the best-in-class malpractice insurance AAO members deserve. They are currently in Phase One. Vetted malpractice insurance for AAO members in all 50 states is currently available. Phase Two will be an exclusively designed malpractice insurance program for AAO members in all 50 states and US territories that will be available this fall.

When should you consider new malpractice insurance? AAO encourages all members —whether your policy is up for renewal or you’re a first-time buyer—to request a quote from the AAO-Endorsed Insurance Program now, so you can compare rates and make the best decision for yourself. Lockton Affinity advisors are here to help guide your insurance choices as we move toward the launch of the new exclusive malpractice program this fall.
