The Medical University of South Carolina has announced the appointment of Dr. Sarandeep S. Huja as dean of the James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Huja, an AAO member, will also have an academic appointment as a professor at the college. He is expected to assume his position as dean effective October 1, 2017, with prior approval by the Board of Trustees required.

“Dr. Huja has an impressive record of academic achievement, demonstrated leadership success and the collaborative team building skills needed to lead our college forward,” said Dr. Patricia L. Blanton, interim dean of the college.

Joining MUSC from his current position as associate dean for faculty and student development and graduate studies at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, Dr. Huja previously held several leadership positions in the orthodontics program at the Ohio State University College of Dentistry. He has published extensively in the AJO-DO, the Angle Orthodontist, the Journal of Clinical Periodontology and other peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Huja received his dental degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in Lincoln. He completed the orthodontic residency program at the Indiana University School of Dentistry and is Board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. He has long been active with the AAO Foundation, currently serving as vice chair of the foundation’s Planning and Awards Review Committee.
