AAO is beginning a multi-year Technology Transformation designed to make it easier for members to interact with AAO online. Over time, members will see a more connected experience when registering for events, accessing education, managing membership information, making payments, and finding the resources they need.
Just as important, this work is being shaped around how members actually use AAO services. Through Design Thinking, AAO is developing member personas, use cases, and journey maps to identify where current experiences create friction and where they can be improved.
Several pieces of the transformation are already underway:
- Events: Winter Conference 2027 registration launched using new registration and integration capabilities.
- Member portal: Planning is underway for a redesigned portal and web experience focused on easier access to member services, profile information, payments, learning, events, and relevant resources.
- Search: A new search capability is in process to help members find relevant content, learning, events, and resources more easily.
- Learning: Work continues on the future learning experience and the systems needed to support AAO’s continuing education strategy.
- Technology and data: We are strengthening system integrations, data, and reporting foundations so information can move more smoothly across AAO platforms and help us better understand how members use AAO services.
AAO is also testing potential solutions in areas such as learning, secure login and identity, search, system integrations, and member-facing workflows. Testing these approaches first allows us to validate key decisions and reduce risk before making larger implementation commitments.
Much of the work happening now is behind the scenes, but the intended result is straightforward: a digital AAO experience that is easier to navigate, more connected, and better aligned with what members need.
