AI platforms are constantly trying to determine who actually knows what they’re talking about and who the experts in this field are. The framework they use to determine this is E-E-A-T, which stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness.

E-E-A-T isn’t a new framework. Its first rendition, E-A-T, was introduced in 2014 as part of Google’s Search Quality Rater Guidelines. Then in 2022, Google added “Experience” to the acronym. We’ll cover what each of these means and why they are important to build trust and authority with AI.

Experience

Experience is about first-hand involvement. AI is good at distinguishing between a practice that describes orthodontic treatment from the outside and one that has lived it with thousands of patients.

Instead of explaining what’s involved during a consultation in generic terms, describe what a patient actually experiences when they step into your office: What happens during the first visit? When other health professionals mention orthodontic care in their blogs, do they mention and link to your site? Trustworthiness

Without it, crawlers can still visit your site and interpret what’s there, but that requires additional effort. However, if you speak in their language, they will understand faster and with more certainty — and that’s what makes crawlers confident enough to cite your practice in an AI-generated response.

The schema is highly detailed; the type you use depends on the category your content falls within. There are schema types for recipes that include ingredients and cooking time, and for health care professionals that include services, credentials, and hours. Local Business schema communicates your location, hours, contact information, and service area to crawlers. LLMs won’t have to guess who you are, where you’re located, and the services you provide.

hasOfferCatalog is a subset of LocalBusiness schema, which means it inherits all the properties that make the LocalBusiness schema important, such as location, hours, and contact details. However, it allows you to list the full range of orthodontic services you provide, such as Clear Aligner Therapy, Metal Braces, and more, with brief descriptions of each.

Orthodontic Practice Local Listings

Before LLMs can confidently cite your practice, they must be confident that you are who you say you are. Ensuring information about your practice is consistent across local listings and platforms is important for establishing this confidence. If your address or contact information appears differently across multiple directories, it’s difficult for AI platforms to determine which is correct.

Not only is consistency critical, but completeness matters too. Fill out as much information as you can on local listings. Every field you complete correctly is another piece of reliable data that AI platforms need to understand the full picture of your practice.

Optimizing Doctor & Treatment Pages

The Doctor and Treatment pages are two of the most important pages on your website when optimizing for AI search.

It is recommended to expand your About sections and Doctor Bios beyond a list of professional credentials; speaking about your clinical philosophy, areas of focus, and experience helps differentiate your practice and signals to LLMs that you have a team of experts they can trust to cite in AI-generated search results.

Adding more depth to Treatment pages can make a difference. A page that communicates that you offer Invisalign probably isn’t enough to earn an AI citation. A page that walks potential patients through the process, candidacy criteria, expected outcomes, and common questions and concerns provides the depth that AI platforms are looking for.

This is where using content pillars can help you. Each major treatment area is your main content pillar, with links to supporting pages such as articles, FAQs, and guides. This signals to the LLM that your practice has in-depth knowledge and expertise across your major orthodontic treatment areas.
