The actions of the violent mob in our nation’s capital last week left us all shocked and in disbelief. The assault was not just on our US Capitol Building, but against democracy itself and is symbolic of our deeply divided nation.
I believe this is a time when it is critical we remain involved with the political process. Our Political Action Committee (PAC) has worked to advocate on your behalf for many decades in Washington DC. Contributions to our PAC have helped shape small business tax reform, the elimination of the Medical Device Tax, and most recently, the substantial changes to the McCarran-Ferguson Act relating to health insurance.
Given the recent events, we are asking our PAC to examine our giving guidelines to ensure our funding is aligned with our legislative agenda and is in keeping with the democratic process. Please be assured that your PAC contributions are only spent after careful forethought. Now is not the time to disengage from the political system. Thank you for your membership in the AAO and your contributions to our PAC. As always, we will continue to advocate on issues that are important to you as an orthodontist.
